achieve potential of today’s livestock
More than 250 nutrition and animal production professionals from around the globe gathered for Provimi’s second animal nutrition seminar in the Netherlands (5-7 June).

Following the theme of the three-day programme, that focused on nutrition the key to unlocking genetic potential and maximising the performance of livestock, the latest research findings, developments and techniques were discussed.

      Nutrition and fertility in the dairy herd
 It is now recognised that reduced fertility in dairy herds is one of the most important factors affecting dairy herd profitability. The effect of infertility onprofitability can be defined as follows: 
 - Extended calving interval
 - Fewer replacement heifers 
 - Lower milk yield per cow
 - Increased replacement costs
 - Increased culling
 - Increased labour, semen and veterinary intervention costs  
 - Extended low production and or an extended dry period 
 - Reduce fertility in subsequent lactation

      Maximal growth in beef cattle
The beef cattle industry is developing fast. Feed mixing carts, use of by-products, new EU regulations for veal calves, and restrictions on antibiotics use are good examples. Important issues in beef cattle production are animal health and low feed costs per kg of gain.

Beef cattle: a broad segment
According to the new EU definitions, the beef cattle production is divided in three categories: young veal (up to eight months of age), old rosé veal or young beef (up to 12 months of age), and beef cattle (from 12 months of age).

  Provimi optimizes sales organisation
Joris van Wichen was appointed on June 1st as Area Sales Manager for The Netherlands and Belgium; in this function he succeeds Gudo klein Gebbink. Over the past years, Provimi has grown considerably in The Netherlands and Belgium, traditionally important markets for Provimi. Van Wichen will focus on further strengthening the technical & sales organisation and continuous improvement of the supply of nutritional solutions and advice. Van Wichen joined Provimi in 2003. In his previous role as Area Sales Manager for the Mediterranean area, Van Wichen managed the sales teams in Italy, Spain, Greece, Malta and Cyprus.
